Go ahead and spoil yourself with this easy to make traditional doughnuts recipe! Top them with honey, and cinnamon, maybe with some chopped walnuts if you like! Or drizzle them with chocolate sauce! Either way, they are simply irresistible!
Serves: 6 people Preparation time: 20′ + 1h waiting Cooks in: 20′ Ready in: 40′
Ingredients
For the dough
375 g all-purpose flour
1 sachet active dry yeast
2 tbsp sugar
½ tsp salt
500 ml lukewarm water
vegetable oil for frying
For serving
heated honey
cinnamon powder
walnuts
Method
Step 1
Mix flour with yeast, sugar and salt in a bowl. Add water a little at a time whisking until the mixture becomes a smooth batter. Make sure the yeast dissolves completely. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rest in a warm place for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
Step 2
Heat enough vegetable oil into a medium sized pan on high heat until it begins to bubble.
Step 3
Dip a tablespoon in a glass of water and spoon out some dough into the pan. Repeat until the pan is comfortably filled. You need to dip the spoon in the water so that the batter doesn’t stick on it. Use a slotted spoon to turn them on all sides, until golden brown.
Step 4
Place the loukoumades on kitchen paper to drain for 2 minutes and then arrange them on a large platter. Drizzle with honey, sprinkle with cinnamon powder and walnuts and enjoy warm!
